An Occupational Hygiene Survey comprising of noise and the exposure to a variety of Hazardous Chemical Substances (HCS) was performed at a Cape-based boatyard, that hand-builds award-winning Sailing Catamarans. Due to the nature of activities and the ever-changing sound profile of this work environment, noise levels vary constantly, and the survey included results from activities such as grinding, cutting, hammering, and buffering. HCS monitoring comprised of employee exposure to wood dust during sanding and grinding activities, as well as styrene, MEK and MEKP, and many other Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s).
